UK government welcomes open source to G-cloud

Sirius has confirmed that it has been awarded a place on the UK government G-Cloud Framework. The firm will be making its full range of open source products available through the CloudStore.

The lack of government adoption of open source storage may be even more pronounced than a recent Freedom of Information (FOI) request suggested.

The FOI request, filed by open source vendor Nexenta, initially showed that just one of the 44 government bodies which responded had bought into open source storage.

Qamar Yunus, assistant director in the Cabinet Office ICT policy team, made the assertion in outlining the guidance the organisation has produced on the subject at the EHI Live event in Birmingham.
